Step 2 - Basic Tree Construction

Here's a summary view of how to assembly the trees.

It’s holiday time again.  Start getting your Christmas tree building material out of the attic.

Hammer, rebar spikes, PVC pipe.

The holes at the top of the PVC pipes are to anchor the guide wires to.  In this pic the wire is wrapped around the pipe.  That’s how I store them in my attic.

Drive one stake to support the pipe / tree trunk.

Set the pipe over the stake on top of the ground.  There is no need to put the pipe in the ground.  That stake and guide wires will keep the pipe erect in the strongest winds (example last year’s blizzard).

With the pipe somewhat in place, now for the guide wires.

The guide wires are tied into the holes at the top of the pipe. We’re untangling, and extending the wire down, spreading it out, and will anchor the wire in the ground using the rebar stakes.

Getting the pole perpendicular can require a few attempts.

Stakes should be driven in the ground at an angle. Wrap the wire low on the stake.  These wraps are loose and just temporary while we get the tree aligned.  Once we get everything lined up, I’ll go back and wrap the wire securely.

If you have a tree topper, be sure insert it first into the top of the pvc pipe, before lifting it in place. For ease of connection, the electric cord of the tree topper should extend long enough to reach the ground.

Step One Complete.  Now for the lights.

PS - Here's some construction pics from years past. As you can see, the tree assembly can be a fun family event.
